Capricorn New Moon

Capricorn New Moon January 2nd.
Venus retrograde in Capricorn until the end of January.
Pluto is still doin’ it’s thing in Capricorn… doing the deep hard work of dismantling the old paradigm and preparing us for a profound rebirth/reconstruction.
Whether you’re a Capricorn or not, these energies are affecting you because this transformation is on the collective level. Think about how this story (below) and these Capricorn themes relate to your life…
It’s 1998. I’m working as a mental health therapist with children who’ve been abused and neglected. I feel beat up too. I’ve been bitten, cursed at and threatened with a metal pipe. I find myself practically running through the hallway between my office and the group therapy room.
“What am I doing?” I ask myself, “Why am I running?” The answer arrives in a light-bulb moment… Our team of therapists has been told time and again that we must be “productive”. I’m running through the hallway so I can be more productive.
In that light-bulb moment I see myself as a cog in a machine, and that machine is part of a factory called Community Mental Health.

But what were we producing?… Healthy, happy, secure, well-adjusted children?
No. We were producing billable hours. To be “productive” meant to bill Medicaid for as many things as possible. I’d better run from group room to office so I could make a few extra 15-minute phone calls that I could bill to Medicaid.
My job also produced some undesirable things… plenty of stress and secondary trauma for me and the other therapists.
I’m not saying that we didn’t do good work with the kids. All the therapists on my team were kind, caring and skillful. But the value of our team was measured in productivity, and productivity was measured in dollars.
You can’t put a monetary value on creating moments of safety and connection for a child who has been hurt and abandoned.

Perhaps if I hadn’t been running around being “productive” and feeling stressed out I might have been more present for precious moments of heart-touching-heart.
My experience of feeling like a cog in a money-making machine is just one example of what’s wrong with the old paradigm.
It’s built on a value system that measures a person’s worth in terms of how much they produce, how hard they work, how much money they earn, how many credentials they accrue, how high they climb on the career ladder, the expense of their wardrobe and the glitziness of their car.
The old paradigm places a high value on toughness, stoicism, and working your fingers to the bone.
The old paradigm wants you to look like you’re invulnerable, always in control, and capable of taking on infinite amounts of responsibility.
As we enter 2022 we also have a New Moon. It’s a powerful opportunity for a new beginning especially with all things related to the sign of Capricorn. All of the old-paradigm values that I just mentioned are expressions of the shadow side of Capricorn. With Venus retrograde in Capricorn the Universe is asking you to re-evaluate your personal values as well as our cultural values, especially those values that lurk in Capricorn’s shadow.
Pluto is also in Capricorn, prodding us to transmute and transform the aspects of our collective foundation that aren’t working. If our foundation works to uphold and prosper The One Percent but doesn’t work for the good of The Whole, then the foundation is cracked and faulty. The Age of Aquarius will be built on a new foundation, a foundation that supports thriving life for the whole of humanity and the whole of our planet.
OUT WITH THE OLD. IN WITH THE NEW.
Capricorn is good at building things. Let’s build with heart.
Capricorn is capable and reliable. Let’s show up for each other and share the load.
Capricorn is strong enough to be vulnerable and let love in.
Capricorn thrives when work-life is balanced with home-life.
Capricorn works toward goals that are aligned with Soul Purpose.
Capricorn defines success in its own terms.
Capricorn values each person’s inherent worth and respects each person’s unique contribution.
Let’s celebrate the New Year by committing ourselves to these more-evolved expressions of Capricorn. Let’s rejoice that we can see what’s wrong with the shadow side of Capricorn. Now we can choose again and work together to build a new foundation built on love.
