Libra New Moon 2021

How are you using your sword? Are you using it to do harm or using it to empower your voice and activate your courage?

Are you lashing out in anger or standing strong and centered in your truth?

Maybe you tossed your sword away a long time ago for fear of having it turned against you or because you’re afraid of your power or because you were taught that nice people don’t carry swords.

The Libra New Moon is joined by a group of astrological actors that bring the theme of warriorship to the forefront. When peace-loving Libra joins with the warrior energies of Mars and Aries we get the archetype of the Peaceful Warrior… the Passion-for-Peace Warrior.

At the time of the New Moon, the Sun, Moon, Mars and Mercury (retrograde) are all in Libra. Directly across from them, on the other side of the sky, you’ll find Eris and Chiron in Aries. Let’s look at the picture that emerges when all of these seeming opposites weave together for the highest good of all.

The Sword of Balance: Harmonizing Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine

Let’s begin looking at this paradoxical New Moon puzzle from the perspective of the Great Turning… the Great Turning from fear and separation to Love and Unity… the Great Turning from the old paradigm of scarcity and power-over to the new paradigm of shared power and shared resources… the Great Turning from patriarchy, whereby the toxic, distorted masculine rules, to the harmonization of Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine.

While the Libra New Moon speaks of a new beginning in regard to balance and harmony, Eris grabs the megaphone and shouts, “No justice, no peace! Hey ho, the sick old paradigm has got to go!” She takes a courageous stand as an Aries Warrioress while squaring off with Pluto in Capricorn. Eris is a powerful fierce expression of the Divine Feminine. She says “No” to Capricorn’s plan for business as usual. No more cultural sanctioning of male dominance. No more oppressive power dynamics.

Joining forces with the Libra planets, Eris calls out for justice, equity, and fairness. We see old patriarchal strategies still asserting themselves (the assault on Roe v. Wade is a prime example) and it might look like we’re losing ground rather than progressing, but I believe that the Great Turning now has an unstoppable momentum. We are seeing what the old paradigm looks like in its death throes. We are watching a paradigm that’s on its way out, and Eris wants to boot it out fast.

Chiron

Now let’s hear from Chiron. As Chiron marches through Aries it adds another dimension to the major healing process we are in as a collective. Chiron shows us how patriarchal values have led to a sick masculinity and a warped relationship with personal power. As Chiron joins with the Libra New Moon it brings healing that can help harmonize Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine. The shadow side of the masculine… dominance, aggression, out-of-control anger, disrespect of others’ needs, and disregard for boundaries… is being revealed by Chiron so it can be healed.

Chiron in Aries can also show us how we abdicate our power and our needs because of fear or entrenched patterns of co-dependency. Sometimes people who identify with male gender and have Chiron in Aries give away their power because they don’t want to be like the toxic male role models they grew up with. Sometimes people who identify with female gender give away their power because of social conditioning that dictates “be nice”, “don’t be selfish”, “don’t be a bitch”.

Chiron says, “Take up your sword of empowerment and do no harm.”

The Sword of Empowerment, Self-Assertion, and Courage

If you’ve never held your sword of self-assertion or you threw it away at some point, now’s a good time to get a whole new understanding of what your sword can do for you. Swords can be scary because when they’re used aggressively they hurt people. If you were abused as a child or were in an abusive relationship as an adult, it was probably safer for you to keep your mouth shut and not risk saying or doing anything that would trigger the abuser’s anger. In those situations the sword of self-assertion can be been turned against you. Establishing safety must come first!

If you are in an abusive relationship, I encourage you to reach out for help. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline: 800−799−SAFE(7233) https://www.acf.hhs.gov/fysb/programs/family-violence-prevention-services/programs/ndvh

Here are a few things your Sword of Self-Assertion can be used for, if you are safe:

  • Courage to express what you need and want
  • Speak your truth
  • Set boundaries, say what your limits are, say “No”
  • Create the space in which you can find your “Yes”
  • Express your anger in healthy ways
  • Work through conflict to arrive at peace
  • Stand up for yourself and advocate for those who can’t stand up for themselves

The new beginning that this powerful Libra New Moon points toward is huge. It’s not just a new beginning for the 28-day lunar cycle, but the beginning of a new wave within the larger process of the Great Turning. It inspires a new degree of conscious embodiment of the Divine Masculine so that Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine* can dance in harmony… and oh how these two can dance! Theirs is the dance of creation!
