A Story for the Gemini New Moon (5/30/22)

When I met with Jai to consult her Desert Rat Oracle I had a question on my mind and heart…

“What is the sacred purpose of the historic log cabin on my land?”

Sitting under a strong sun with intermittent winds arriving in sudden gusts we looked out into the vast space of Sunshine Valley and opened a portal to the oracle’s wisdom.

The first three cards spoke to the need to clean up the cabin in preparation for its transformation but what would it be transforming into? The third card, The Moth card, aroused a feeling of uneasiness and I felt slightly repulsed by it. Sure moths go through a transformation from larvae to winged ones, similar to the journey from caterpillar to butterfly, but moths seem like they’re on the darker side. It didn’t seem like the answer I was looking for.

“Can I pick another card for more info about The Moth?” I asked.

With a “Yes” from Jai I pulled another card and saw three words written on it:

 I-Hear-You

As soon as I saw it, I knew who was talking to me and I knew that he heard my question about The Moth card. I immediately felt the presence of Floyd “Red Crow” Westerman who is an ancestor watching over my log cabin and this land I live on. It would be another whole story to tell you about Red Crow and my miraculous connection with him and perhaps I’ll share that story another time, but for now, let’s get back to the oracle…

“I hear you,” he said and I laughed. He got it that I was uncomfortable with The Moth card and somehow it struck me as funny that he would speak to me so directly… as if we were having a conversation over tea.

Jai illuminated the broader meaning of the card beyond its immediate implication that Red Crow heard what I was saying and that he “got” what I was feeling.

“This card relates to the ancestors,” she explained “and it’s a card that you might want to put on an altar. The images on the card… bee, flower and heart… speak to a reciprocal relationship, an exchange.”

“Ah, it’s a conversation,” I said “It’s not just about Red Crow hearing me, but about me listening to him. It’s an exchange of the heart… giving and receiving love along with the sharing of information. He has guidance for me about the cabin’s sacred purpose, and I want to hear what he has to say, not just in this moment but in an ongoing way.”

Along with that insight about my ongoing conversation with Red Crow I saw that the log cabin itself may transform into an altar of some kind… a place that holds his memory and honors his mission to heal our relationship with Mother Earth. His mission and my mission are aligned as one. I believe that’s why I am here on this land, at this pivotal time in the evolution of humanity and the evolution of Mother Earth.

The “I Hear You” card opened my mind to possibilities I hadn’t considered before, and a feeling of relief washed through me. There is no rush. I’m in process with the cabin as it transforms into its next higher purpose, and I’m not alone in this process because I’m in relationship with Red Crow and we’re having a conversation.

At some point I’ll be taking the cabin out of mothballs (in case that’s an unfamiliar saying, what taking something “out of mothballs” means is to take it out of storage after a period of disuse). For now, I’m talking to Red Crow every morning in my prayer time and I’m listening with my heart.
